e-Science Premium Membership Review

 I was recently asked to review e-Science Premium Membership from Supercharged Science .  This is an awesome complete science curriculum for K-12. I received the k-12 level that is $57 a month.

I usually put the pricing at the very end of my reviews but I know $57 is a little on the high side so I wanted to point it out first.When I first saw that I thought- Wow that is a pretty pricey! It better be worth it!

After getting to review this product I can tell you that I actually think it is worth it and that I will be purchasing a subscription for next year for our science curriculum.  So if you are wondering what would make this penny pincher pay that much for a science curriculum please read on!

First a little bit of information to explain what e-science premium membership is. 

e-Science Premium Membership is a online complete curriculum for science. As I said above it covers grades k-12. The program is filled almost every topic in science that you would ever want to cover. Each topic or unit starts with a  short easy to understand text, followed by an engaging video. From there you go the the super fun experiment section. There is a long list of experiments that each have pretty easy to find supplies, and a video explaining it. These experiments directly correlate with the topic that your child has learned about it.

There are two ways you can work through the self guided program. You can start by grade (so if you are one who wants to know what little Sally needs to know in 3rd grade, this is a great option for you) or you can just start at the first topic and work your way through it. e-Science includes over 800 hands-on Science lessons and activities (taught step-by-step through detailed videos).

There are quizzes and assignments,live science classes every couple of weeks where you student can connect with her directly, and so many more really great resources. You can find out more information about those on the Supercharged Science site. 

This is the perfect curriculum for the parent who does not feel confident in teaching science.

 Curious who the teacher is?

Aurora is a real rocket scientist.  She worked for NASA, has designed rockets, has 3 patents for her inventions, holds a graduate degree in mechanical engineering, did PhD work at Stanford University, has taught on the faculty of Cal Poly University (she was the youngest faculty member ever hired by the Mechanical Engineering dept.), has taught K-12 science to well over 10,000 kids, is a licensed pilot, and currently serves as president of the California Central Coast Astronomical Society.  AND, she is a stay-at-home mom to 4 kids.

How we used it-

The  first thing I did is watch a video and read through the getting started section. It is all easily laid out and explains it really well. After watching the video I felt pretty confident about using the program and I could decide whether to go by grade or topic. I choose topic but her explanation in the video will help you decide which is the better route for your students.

The next thing  we did was watch a create our science journals. The teacher has an excellent video where she explains why a science journal is important and what kind of information you should put in it. I love that she talks to the kids like they are real scientist. She never speaks down to them and her passion for science is soooo contiguous. My son is not a fan of writing in any form so I thought he wouldn’t really like the whole science journal thing but after listening to her he jumped right in. That alone would have made me love this curriculum just becasue I could see from that moment on that she had the ability to get my son excited about science.

That was our first day and we thought that would be a good place to stop for the  day.After that we started  the first topic and have been working our way through the lessons and experiments. We were finishing up another science curriculum at the same time that we were working through this one. I only had three more lessons in that curriculum that I really wanted him to finish. The really cool thing was that this e-science membership is also designed to compliment many other  science curriculums so finishing up with our one was really fun.  I could just look through the topics on the e-science site and then add them in with his old lessons. There is a large list of science curriculums that this program can complement. Very cool in my opinion.  On the list they even break it down into what unit matches up to what lesson. So if you have a science curriculum that you love but you think it could use just a little help to reignite the passion for science in your child , then again- this is a great one for you!

We have done more experiments with this curriculum than with any other I have ever had. I always felt pretty confident in doing each experiment and never had a hard time finding any of the supplies. I thought instead of loading up this review with tons of pictures I would ask my son which one he liked or which one I should show pictures of and he choose this one below. It was my favorite too and we still have the bottle sitting on our science table. This experiment was teaching the kids about density. But it didn’t just cover that. She pulled in some many other topics at the same time. I loved it becasue it was super cheap to do and my youngest also jumped in and was learning with us. This happened in so many experiments. She would watch the video with him and then sit there and watch or help with the experiments. Then of course she had to write in her science journal too.

I wanted to mention too that another perk of the membership with  Supercharged Science was that every couple of weeks she offers a live e-class on some really cool science topics. Jayden sat down and listened to one  about the planets and black holes. I knew he was really enjoying it becasue every couple of minutes he would yell at me- Mom come look at this! Look what this planet looks like! Hey do you know what a Super Nova is mom?

It continued on and on becasue he was so into what she was saying. I loved seeing him really getting into science. Isnt that what we all want- for our child to really develop a love of learning!

I loved seeing his passion for science really ignite with this curriculum. For me that is what made me decide to buy it for next years science curriculum. I loved the teachers passion and her respect for children. She made Jayden feel as though he could be a scientist and that science was really cool and interesting! Yes it is a little pricey, I am not denying that. But for me it was worth it. Everything was so easy to use , the lessons were clear and interesting, and Jayden loved it. I love that I am not worried about how to teach what a black hole is or why lasers work. She takes care of all of that for me! I just get to sit beside him and relearn things with him. The only real thing I have to do is pick what experiments to do and get the easy to find supplies (most of the time I had everything already).
