Easy Homemade Biscuit Recipe
Today I wanted to share my easy homemade biscuit recipe! Biscuits are a cheap way to stretch a meal a little further and my whole family gets excited when I make them. I don’t make these often but when I do I like to double the batch so I can freeze some for a later meal.
You can use whatever kind of milk you like. We use almond milk because that’s what I have in the fridge. Buttermilk makes them really good to but I rarely have it on hand. If you want to make your milk like buttermilk there is an easy trick that works. Click here to get it.
I hope you enjoy this easy homemade biscuit recipe!
Easy Homemade Biscuit Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 cups self rising flour
- 2/3 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 cup milk (I use almond milk- original flavor, but any milk will do)
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit then follow the directions below.
You don’t want to over mix, but you want to make sure it gets combined fully. If it looks really wet after you do this then just sprinkle on a little bit of flour and that should help.It should pull together and make sort of a dough ball like the picture below.
Knead the dough about a minute or so. You can then pat it or roll it out to the thickness you like. We like thick and fluffy biscuits here so I leave mine pretty thick. I have a biscuit cutter that I use but a glass would work too. For really special breakfasts, like birthdays or holidays I have used cookie cutters to cut them out ( we have stars, hearts, etc).
Last step really is to put them in the oven and bake. Your time is going to depend on the thickness of your biscuits.Mine take about 10-15 minutes. Each oven is different so just watch them closely to figure out your timing, but a good judgement is around the 8 – 10 minute mark. You want the tops to have a soft golden color, and the edges should look cooked. It is better to leave them in longer and have a little more brown tint to them than to take them out before they are cooked through. Just use your judgement. The more you make them the better you will get at them!
These are best shared warm with people you love!
[box type=”note” ]Side note- I have frozen these before and they came out fine. All I do is is double or triple the batch. I cut them out and put them on wax paper or parchment parer on a cookie sheet. I put them in my freezer and let them flash freeze for an hour or two. Then I just take them off the cookie sheet and put in a freezer bag. When I am ready for them I take out as many as I need and put them on a cookie sheet and pop them in a preheated oven ( 425 degrees) for about 20-25 minutes. Your oven may cook differently than mine so just keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t burn.[/box]

Yum! This is really close to the vegan biscuit recipe we use. We’re a Southern crew, so it’s biscuits and gravy for us. 😀 Except my 8 yr old. He goes for Earthbalance and jam.
Thanks for sharing!
I just made some vegan gravy the other day for the first time and I was surprised it came out so good. I thought gravy was one of those things I just wouldn’t ever make again!
Amber, these look so good. Makes my mouth water.
