Come along with me as I conquer the excuses and get ready for my first 5K!

Fitness Friday!

Fitness Friday! A new series dedicated to getting you fit! Come along with me as I try to conquer the excuses and find real practical ways to get get fit and fabulous!

Happy Friday everyone!!

This was my first week trying really hard to get a grip on this whole working out thing.

I discovered a few things this week.

1. Without a plan, I will fail at this.

2. I never like getting started but once I do , I am happy I did.

3. I need some better music to workout too.

4. Slow and steady wins the race.

My first goal was to make plan. I dont like to fail at anything and I knew if I didn’t make a plan then nothing would happen this week. After all each week I always have good intentions to get some exercise. But I blink and its the end of the week and I have done nothing.  So this week I found a couch to 5K app on my phone. I could buy the app or try the free version out for a week. I went with the free version just to see if I liked it or not. I not only liked it , I loved it! I told me when to walk and when to run. There are no speeds you have to run out so I could go at my own pace which at the moment is pretty slow. But I am trying at to me thats what counts right now.  I would like to eventually do a 5K becasue it has always been a secret goal of mine to run a few and eventually do a half marathon, and then of course do a full one.  This week is the first time I really felt like if I dedicated myself to it, I could reach that goal. Anyone else have a goal like that?

My goal next week is to add in some yoga to the running. I have done some yoga in the past and really enjoyed it. Next week I’ll be sharing what  resources I used and liked with that!

I never pop out of bed and think- Yes I am awake!! Let me go exercise!!  I know some of you do and I hope I will get there but right now I am being honest. I want to sleep in the morning till the very last minute I can. My youngest is doing this weird sleeping habit thing right now so I am tired. But I promised myself I would do this, so I get up while everyone  else is asleep and get started. The hardest part for me is getting started. I have to fight those million and a half reasons why I would rather lay in bed or do anything else besides get up and get on my treadmill.  But once I do I am always glad I did. It feels good to get my body moving and I know that I am taking time to work on me. This is the “me time” that I need right now. I take care of everyone else in my family but I had to get it in my head if I don’t care of me then I cant take care of them either. My family means the world to me and I owe it to them to give them the best version of me I can. I also owe it to myself and the rest of the world too. I have a lot of talents and can help a lot of people but if I am not taking care of myself then I cant do the best job of being  me.

I also decided I need to find some good music to  listen to while I workout. I am at a loss on that one.  The only songs I really know right now are ones that include the ABCs  or some other random nursery rhyme all my daughters toys play. I would love some suggestions!!

The last thing I learned this week is something I already know and I tell all my clients all the time. Slow and Steady wins the race. Yes I would love to jump in and do a bunch of crazy workouts and have a 6 pack in 6 weeks or lose massive inches off my waistline. But I have a tendency to jump into things with wild passion and then start myself at a pace that I can never possibly keep up.  So of course I get burnt out and then I find a dozen reasons why I should quit or give myself a break and start again later. The problem is I never start again.  I don’t want to do  this with working out. I want this to be something I can stick with so I am taking it nice and slow.  I love the couch to 5K plan. It works for me because I am not having to do some crazy workout to start off with. I can run or walk as slow as I need to. It helps me set a goal and I am going to reach it. I am not in good shape right now but that is only temporary. I can fix this and work on it and I will!
