Are you looking for some healthy lunch ideas for kids? Let me help give you a couple!

This whole week I will be sharing some “healthier” options for lunches for kids , and a few of them you may even like yourself!

Yesterday I went ahead and covered some healthy ways to do a makeover on your typical PB&J. Today I wanted to continue on with the sandwich theme but challenge you to open your mind to the possibilities of giving that tired old meat and cheese sandwich a makeover too!  Why not load it with some great veggies, protein packed hummus, or some beautiful nutrient packed fruit? It may seem a little different than what you are used to but it is all those small little tweaks  that will add up to really big changes in your health and your life!

First let’s cover how to make a healthier wrap sandwich. I like making wraps becasue they are easy to make and super easy to tweak to what you like or dont like.  For anyone looking to get away from typical sandwich bread they are a great option.

The first thing you need to do is pick a tortilla. If your kids  are used to the typical big white tortillas then use those to start out with. You can always switch to a whole wheat one once they are used to what you are putting in it. Slow and steady wins the race when it comes to kids.

I will show you how to do a veggie wrap first-

Start by putting some hummus on your tortilla. We love this recipe. Use whatever one your family likes. If you have never made hummus before or tired it go ahead and give it a try! Its a great snack!! Now keep in mind this is one I did for myself so I put a good amount of hummus on mine. If just starting out put a much smaller amount.

Next load up with veggies!I like tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce in mine. You know what your child likes so use a larger amount of what they like and a smaller amount of what you know they won’t be to crazy over. Colored peppers sliced thinly seem to go over really well with kids becasue they are sweet.Plus they add a nice colorful ( and nutrient packed) punch to a wrap. Just try new things and see what works and what doesn’t. If adding shredded cheese will get your kids to start eating  the wrap then start by adding it. You can slowly start taking out the cheese and adding other veggies in. I also like to put some of this ranch dressing on my wraps, so if you have a ranch lover in your house do that!  This is what mine looks like when it all packed and wrapped up!

So what if you have a child who hates veggies? At one point I had one who would have looked at me like I was insane if I would have handed him one of these. I am just being honest with you. ( That is also why we started on Juice Plus Gummies). That is why I want to go over how to make a fruit wrap for those kids who prefer fruit over veggies!

It is the same principle with a  fruit wrap. Instead of hummus you use peanut butter ( or other nut butter of choice) or even yogurt. Next pile on the fruit!! Sliced apples are great, so are bananas, and strawberries. Then just wrap up and enjoy!

* IF you are packing a lunch I would slice up everything and let your child ( depending on age put it all together). Put it in separate baggies or little containers for them. Sometimes when you give kids a little control over their meal they will be more open to trying new things.

With the sandwich theme going on I also wanted to share this next idea with you. Fruit Sub sandwiches!! Click on the link below and go and check out this great lunch (and dinner idea!)

Another easy and fun lunch to do is  the Secret Agent Cheesy Quesadillas. These actually have a secret healthy ingredient in them that your child won’t even notice! You can use whatever cheese you are used to in these to start off with and then you can gradually switch to another cheese alternative ( you would do that to save on cholesterol among other things).
