I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Rosetta Stone. I received a product and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Learning to read is a big deal in this house. We are all readers so my little ones grow up watching everyone read and being read too. Each one of my kids has always looked forward to finally learning to read. With my first one we did a more rigid program and what I learned from that was it took all the fun out of reading. With my second I did a more relaxed play oriented approach to learning how to read. This was much more enjoyable! With my third starting to show signs and readiness to learn to read I wanted to take the same approach with her. When I was offered to review the Rosetta Stone Reading Program from the popular company Rosetta Stone , I was careful to really take some time and look through it before I decided to do it. After all I didn’t want another rigid program.I watched the Rosetta Stone Reading Program Demo and thought it looked pretty good.  I decided to give it a try! I highly recommend you watch it too (Watch it here).

So what is Rosetta Stone Reading Program? Rosetta Stone Reading program is an online fun program designed to help children ages 3-7 get a jump-start on their education by developing core literacy skills in an engaging and effective way.

Our Experience with Rosetta Stone Reading Program-

Logging in was easy and the whole program to me seemed very user friendly. I was able to set and even adjust the settings as we went along which was a really nice feature. The first setting I put her her was actually a little hard for her to really do on her own and I could tell she was getting a little confused with what it was asking her. This was no problem at all though becasue all I had to do was go and adjust the settings on the parent side to a little lower and that problem was fixed. For this age I like for everything to be really easy so that the child gets confidence in themselves. This was easy to do with this program.

I let my daughter (3, almost 4 in a month) “play” on the program about 10 minutes a day, Monday through Friday. We homeschool so we do most of our schooling throughout those days. It was really easy to put her at the table and let her do her school while her older brother was at the other side working on his. I never made her do it, I would only suggest it in a fun way. I find tone of voice and your attitude about things really sets the mood for the how my kids will react to something new. Having her work on that helped keep her busy for a few minutes to so I could help my son with math. This was a plus for me for sure!

The program uses happy little rainbow drops as the characters and everything just seems so friendly and inviting to kids. My daughter really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to seeing her progress through the levels. She is learning lots of really great concepts like shapes, matching, sorting, etc that will help her learn to read.

I think this is a great supplement to any learning to read program. I say supplement because I don’t think that there is really ever a stand alone program to teach your child to read. I think depending on the child there are lots of factors that help your child become a successful and happy reader.

We do a variety of things to help our readers get going-

1. We use fun computer games like Rosetta Stone Reading Program. Technology is really appealing to all my kids so I use it to my advantage!

2. We play games like I spy and look for things that start with the letter or even the letter to help with letter recognition.

3. We play with sensory bins with letters and learn our alphabet and then start to build words with them. Need some ideas? Check these out!

4.We read books and make sure there are lots of sturdy child friendly books all over the house from day 1.

5. We build lots of good positive association with reading. If when we really start to get going with reading and a child starts to get frustrated we take a break and grab a pleasure book just to enjoy.

6. We never push and we take our time with learning to read. Just becasue one child learned to read at 3 does not mean the other ones will. My kids have learned to read at all different ages and I never sweat it. I just fond that adds undue stress and I try to appreciate each kid as a individual. I had a very experienced mom tell me that long ago when my kids were young and it has been a life saver for us.

We try lots of fun things and see what works with each child. The point is to make it fun and never to long!

We will continue to use Rosetta Stone Reading program with our daughter along with some other really fun activities to help her become a happy and confident reader. There is even a free trail you can try out with your little one! Let Rosetta Stone Reading program help you make learning to read more fun for you and your child!
