Shroom Burger! Not your typical burger ( but thats a good thing!) Adventures in Mindful Living

This is not your typical burger, and that is a really good thing. Your typical burger  made out of hamburger ( or any other animal product) is anything but good for you. They all have varying degrees of bad for you but really there are some other alternatives and I will be sharing those with you over the next couple of weeks! So hopefully by the time that grilling season and all of those summer gatherings come around you will have a few alternatives to turn to if you wish!

I have already shared an awesome veggie burger recipe that I came across earlier on my blog. You can find it here. I will also be sharing my favorite store bought veggie burger soon too. (I have a couple more to try out first!)

This recipe is pretty cool though becasue it is really easy to tweak to what your taste preferences are. I love food that I can change up depending on my mood and what I have already on hand! So lets get started!

Shroom Burgers!

Ingredients:

*however many burgers you want to make- get that many large portabella mushrooms.

*any kind of spices or sauces you really like!

  Super Easy Directions!

Turn your portabella mushrooms over and cut the stems of them, so they end up looking like this.

Keeping your mushrooms turned over like this, next pour your seasonings or sauces over them. It will all kind of pool up in the middle. Thats ok! Let it sit for at least 20 minutes. For these that you see above I used some liquid smoke (a little goes a LONG way!), some A1 sauce and Salt & Pepper .

I cook mine on a hot skillet for a few minutes on each side. I like to really get a nice sear on the outside of the mushroom. I like to use a little coconut oil in my pan to keep them from sticking but you could do the same with water or vegetable broth.

Take your shroom burger off of the heat and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Then just top it just like you would any other burger! The one shown below is just with the typical toppings ( Lettuce,Tomato, Ketchup and Mustard).

My favorite toppings are-

salsa ( turn it over and pour the salsa on top- the shape of the upside down shroom hold its great!)

Mexican Cheese-  oh my goodness this is soooooooooooo good! Messy but really good! Just turn it over  and pour the mexican cheese  on it and serve on a toasted bun with some tomatoes.  Just typing this makes my mouth water!

Ranch Dressing– same thing. Just flip it over and pour the ranch dressing over the cooking portabella and then load up with some veggies and a bun!

Mexican Rice-  you can use this recipe or if you have leftovers from this meal they are great too!  Just turn over and load up! I eat this with a fork and knife (and without a bun). Very filling!

If you really want something delicious make this dip and then flip over the mushroom once they are cooked and put a huge heap on top. Then get out your fork and knife again and enjoy!!

I have given you some great ways to really enjoy the  awesome portabella mushroom  or as we call it here- The Shroom Burger! I hope you will give some of them a try! If you do I would love to see your pictures of them! Post them to the Adventures In Mindful Cooking Facebook wall and I will share some of them!
