Preschoolers and Peace: Homeschooling older kids with success while loving the little ones at your feet

(e-book) review

When I saw this ebook Preschoolers and Peace: Homeschooling older kids with success while loving the little ones at your feet  come up for a review, I really hoped I would get it. You see I am a huge fan of the Preschoolers and Peace website! I knew anything that Preschoolers and Peace would put out , I would get some great value from.

This ebook beginnings with a lovely little encouragement that reminds you to seek God first. This is a great reminder to me as my life has gotten busier lately. There is also some great ideas and tips for prayer time like making a prayer binders and prayer boxes.  One of my favorite ideas was tracing your child’s hand in your prayer notebook and then writing things inside it and around it that you are praying for them.

From there you jump into planning around  preschoolers. She goes over schedules and how to set them. She also has some great ideas on what all should be in your schedule. My favorite part of this section is when she discussed how to let your schedule be a tool. Her words were – It should serve you, not the other way around. When I first started homeschooling I had 2 three years olds, 1 8 year old, and a 7 year old. Those two little ones also happened to be very active little boys so when I scheduled our day the way I thought it should go, lets just say it never went well. Learning how to use a schedule or routine as a tool would have saved me some stressful days!

This ebook also tackles the question I hear all the time from parents with preschoolers- How do I keep them busy?  This was my favorite section of the whole ebook. I have some things that I do to keep my preschooler busy while I do school (you can find that list here) but I was really in need of some more ideas.  I got so many ideas from this book that I would say it would be worth buying this ebook just for this section!

These are some of the ones we stated using!

Using the water in your home! I love sensory bins and so does my little one. I added some water to one of our favorite sensory bins and it made it so much more fun!

We used  unscented water beads that we found at our local dollar store in this one.

Let them play on your phone or tablet. This one has saved me multiple times!! I went through the app store and picked out some great preschool apps ( most were free or under $3).  I even bought 2 Dora apps much to the delight of my Dora loving preschooler. The investment we made in those was well worth the time it gave me when I needed to work with my older child on a subject like math or science. These also came in handy when I was cooking or shopping in the grocery store.

I also saw a huge bag of uncooked pinto beans at the store one day that had been marked down tremulously. I had been reading this ebook earlier and remembered a picture of a kid playing with dry beans so I snapped it up for a “busy activity” one day. My preschooler loves playing with this sensory bin and it gives me time to work with my son on subjects he needs  a little more guidance on.

You can also see her shelves in this picture behind her. Those shelves are loaded with her favorite books and lots of very kid friendly activities and games. She likes to pull those out and sit under the table while I am teaching my son.

Another thing we did recently was pain t our hallway with chalkboard paint so she could color happily while the rest of us did school or work.

There is also a great section in this ebook about  how to get any preschool done with a preschooler. I am a huge fan of just letting kids play and be kids. I think the best way to learn for little ones is to do it through play. She offers lots of great tips on how to do this all through out the day. I love that she doesnt push doing “preschool” but instead helps encourage you to relax and just play!

She discusses circle time in this ebook to and how to include your little ones in it. If you are curious what circle time is you can find that here.  I have actually read Preschoolers and Peace’s ebook about circle time and I got some great value from it too!

Other topics covered in this ebook are what to do when all of your kiddos are preschoolers, active kids, chores, and lots of other great tips and tricks for making it through and enjoying the preschooler years.

This is a great ebook for moms to get if you have little ones! It doesn’t take a long time to read but is packed with real practical advice. It sells for $2.99 , which in my opinion is a great value!  For less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks you can find some great ways to save your sanity with your preschooler!
