A fun way to help kids calm down! Adventures in Mindful Living

This is a fun and easy way to help kids calm down. My son tends to get really excitable during and after certain situations. This is something I started with him to help him learn how to naturally calm himself back down and be able to focus or to go to sleep.I think there are several factors that help him do this with this playdough.

1. It has lavender essential oils in it. Lavender has a nice calming and relaxing effect.

2. He has to sit down and stop moving.

3.It gives him something to put his excessive energy into (both mental and physical).

4.Its a routine that tells his body it is time to calm down.

I honestly think it is a combination of all of the above that really help him start to calm down. I don’t give him any instructions, I just let him play. I have a large basket of cookie cutters that I let him play with but that is it.  Usually he will play with it for about 30 minutes and then he is calm and ready to go to bed or start whatever other task I need him to complete.

Using this playdough has taken a lot of stress out of our house. I hope you will give it  try and see if it will help your child calm down naturally too!

Directions-

It is really easy. Follow these directions and just add your lavender essential oil at the end when you are mixing the water and the flour mixture together. I used about 10 drops but you could vary it depending on your child’s preferences.

If you are interested more in how you can you use essential oils to help you in your everyday life just like I did in this playdough recipe then keep your eyes out on our blog!  I have a wonderful lady who will be doing some guest posting on essential oils and their uses. She will be answering any questions you may have! So stay tuned!
