The Life Changing Loaf of Bread

Of course with a name like that you had to come and check out this recipe,right?!! Yep the name got me too. My brilliant brother sent me this recipe knowing that I love stuff like this. Looking through the ingredients list got me even more curious to if this bread would actually taste good or taste like cardboard.

Check out the ingredient list –

sunflower seeds
 flax seeds
 hazelnuts or almonds
 rolled oats
chia seeds
 psyllium seed husks 
 fine grain sea salt 
maple syrup 
 melted coconut oil 
 water

Now I know those are some great and very healthy ingredients. But here is the thing I have found with really great and healthy ingredients- Either the recipes come out tasting like dirt or cardboard or they are amazing.

I really wanted this recipe to turn out amazing. I loved the ingredient list and it was super easy to make! Plus I love bread, I mean I really,really,really love bread!! But we all know its not always the best thing in the world for you to eat. I always try to make my own and some days that happens but most days I don’t want to fool around with all the prep and all the hoping the bread doesn’t fall due to all the little people in my house running around like crazy monkeys. So instead I tend to have to buy that crap they sell in the stores.The chance to make easy and healthy bread was very appealing so I just decided to go for it!

I had most of the ingredients on hand except for the psyllium seed husks. I went to my local co-op and they had psyllium seed husk powder so I used that. She talks about being able to use that in the recipe so I knew I would be ok. This is what it looks like in my local store in case you are looking for some.

When I said this was a super easy to make recipe I was not kidding. You pretty much just mix all the dry ingredients, and then mix the wet. Then mix them both together and put it in bread pan.Then you let it soak. I soaked mine over night  becasue I forgot about it (thats what happens when you get caught up with binge watching Sherlock on Netflixs at night).But lucky for me it wasn’t a big deal according to the recipe. You bake it for a little while and then pop it out of the pan and bake for awhile longer.

This is what mine looked like before it cooked. The original recipe uses a silicone baking pan but I don’t have one so I just used my normal bread baking dish.I just sprayed it lightly with some cooking spray and it worked just fine.

I will say this is not the prettiest bread you can make. My french bread beats it in looks any day but as for nutrition wise this bread has it beat easily! It has a really great nutty flavor and is very dense. When it came out of the oven I thought it was going to taste horrible and I was a little upset with myself for using up all of my sunflower seeds on this strange looking brick  that was in front of me. But after tasting it I was pleasantly surprised!  It was actually good and very hearty! You have to slow down eating it becasue of all the seeds but it is well worth it. Once slice really fills you up.  I still find myself puzzled at how good this bread is, it just looks like it should not be. But looks are not everything when it comes to baking and cooking, thank goodness! Infact my ugliest dishes are usually the best.

While I do not think that this loaf of bread is a life changer, it is still really good. Anytime you can find a healthier recipe that has a great taste it is a pretty awesome thing. Will your kids love it? I am not sure. Mine just looked at and then looked at me like I had lost my mind when I called it bread, but I dont care. More for me! Make a smoothie and have you a piece of this toast in the morning and you have a  really healthy breakfast or snack. I have some new Follow your Heart Gourmet blend Cheese that I am going to melt on top of a slice of this for a treat later.

You really should give this recipe a try. This bread is extremely good for you and is great with a little bit of butter or even peanut butter on it.
